AI can fight climate change but there’s a catch: Optimization doesn’t automatically equa

The good news for planet earth is that artificial intelligence has some brilliant tools that may help slow or reverse global warming. The bad news is that not much will happen unless AI somehow finds the right goals, what’s known as the “objective function.”A workshop on AI in climate change in mid-December gathered hundreds of scholars in Vancouver during the NeurIPS AI conference, including some of the Illuminati of machine learning.
